Monte Baldo, located near Verona in northern Italy, is a well-known fossil site where ancient marine sediments have preserved a variety of organisms—including beautifully detailed fossil crabs. These fossils typically date to the Eocene epoch (about 50–40 million years old), when the region was part of a warm, shallow sea. They form within limestone or marl matrix, which enhances the contrast of the fossil against the surrounding stone. Quality crab fossils from this location are not abundant, increasing their value among fossil enthusiasts.
